Our math books have finally arrived! No more worksheets or paper packets! We are starting a new lesson today involving decimals. Our homework policy of no more than 20 minutes a night still stands. This also means that in-class finishers still do not have homework, but are required to take their math workbooks home EVERY night. This allows you to check up on your child's progress in math and see what they are learning. Please read pg. 47 of the math workbook to see what we will be learning in this next unit.

Jog-A-Thon
It's that time of year again! Jog-A-Thon time! We are preparing to make this year's Jog-A-Thon the best ever and we need your help.  Students should have brought a JAT packet home with them last week.  This included pages on what the JAT is, health notes, fundraising pledge sheets and t-shirt order forms.  we really need to get the t-shirt order forms back ASAP.  We will be ordering the shirts next week and to ensure that your child receives the proper size, we need the order form back by Wednesday, Oct. 15th.  We would also appreciate a $10 donation along with it to help cover the cost of the shirts. If you never received the packet, please click on our online version you can print and return to the front office.

The Path Ahead:
Here we are a month into the school year and we are well under way for our fundraising efforts. The resounding success of the Golf Tournament was a great kick-off to the year, and Mixed Bags is well under way.

Over the past several weeks, we have had a number of new families join UDA; and as always, we welcome the new students and parents with open arms. As you can see from below, there are several exciting ways for you to get involved this year. Fall Festival is just around the corner and this will prove to be UDA’s biggest and best one yet! Our little school is growing and serving a broader community, and there’s never been a better time to get involved.

The Network Executive team is thankful for all our parents--new and returning, the administrative team, and our amazing teachers; your hard work and dedication makes UDA a better school for everyone.

Mixed Bags Fundraiser Update
Did you know that this past Tuesday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at grocery and convenience stores, driven to action by pollution in streets and waterways?!  Sounds like we will all have a need soon for reusable bags, right?  What a great time to take advantage of the Mixed Bags fundraiser!

Check your child's backpack - the Mixed Bags catalog went home this week! Or, order online at:www.mixedbagdesigns.com, just enter your child's name and our ID#: 125955!  UDA gets 45% back from catalog sales (you pay no shipping and no sales tax), and 40% from online sales (you pay shipping and sales tax)!

The balloon started to fill with gas and blow up!

f

The solid baking soda was placed in liquid vinegar producing carbon dioxide gas, which is evident because of the formation of bubbles in the foaming mixture. Eventually all of the solid dissolved and reacted producing a new liquid solution.

During the reaction, a solid and liquid have been chemically reacted to form a gas and a liquid. This experiment can also be used to explain foams, as liquids or solids containing gas bubbles
